The Rooftop features three components: MCA CAFE, the outdoor patio and bar, and the June S. Gates Garden. Each exemplifies the beauty of sustainable design. The Garden created by local landscape architect Karla Dakin, is comprised of the five steel-framed beds suspended in space. Working in collaboration with Denver Botanic Gardens' Senior Horticulturist and Green Rooftop Designer, Mark Fusco, the plant material was culled to create a xeric scheme utilizing many Colorado native species. Several of the beds float above a pool of water to make an elegant environment for reflecting on art. Overall, the Rooftop is an essential part of MCA DENVER’s green building initiative, reducing cooling loads and the heat island effect.


The Garden is named in honor of June S. Gates funded by the Gates Frontiers Fund.
