David Altmejd
Altmejd has become well known for his sculptural installations that use reflective surfaces, bringing his audiences into ancient worlds where he creates a life that is seductive and enigmatic. Altmejd's installation for MCA DENVER's Large Works Gallery continues his "quest for the sublime, wondrous and fantastic." Just as the exhibition's subtitle Museum as Body Electric relates to Walt Whitman's famous poem I Sing the Body Electric, Altmejd's installation brings to life "souls reflected in nature."
David Altmejd was born in Canada in 1974 currently lives and works in New York, NY. He received his BFA from the University of Quebec, Montreal, Canada and his MFA from Columbia University, New York, NY. He has exhibited at Modern Art, London, United Kingdom; Xavier Hufkens, Brussels, Belgium; and Andrea Rosen, New York, NY. His work was exhibited in the Istanbul Biennial (2003) Turkey; Whitney Biennial (2004) United States; and the Venice Biennale (2007) Italy.
Sponsored in part by the American Institute of Architecture, Denver Chapter.
