Since we've built our new museum, we’ve opened 21 exhibitions featuring artists from 13 different countries.
Artist in Residence Terry Maker sets up conceptual interactions between herself and the viewer to question the state of everyday reality. Maker works in various media, yet often returns to found objects as her source material, as these objects hold the mystery of untold stories. It is through this process of searching into the history of ordinary things that she has arrived at the Garden of Nineveh. Nineveh, the ancient biblical capital of Assyria, was a strong and prosperous empire that came to a sudden and tragic end as punishment for the pride of its people. Maker's encaustic mural-like paintings in the Project Gallery are embedded with objects encased in a seductive surface that evokes longing and desire. The works and their fractured interior state are unified by color as Maker seeks a resolution that is harmonious and spiritual in nature.
Maker was born in the United States in 1953. She currently lives and works in Louisville, Colorado. Maker received a BA from McMurry University, Abilene, TX; an ME from Texas Tech University, Lubbock and an MFA from University of Colorado, Boulder. She has exhibited at International Fine Arts Center, Hiroshima, Japan; Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Colorado, and Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. She is represented by Robischon Gallery, Denver, Colorado. In 1999, Maker was awarded a fellowship by the Colorado Council on the Arts, Denver.
